Hollow Metal Door Fabricator
General Descriptions:
The metal door fabricator will be required to perform a multitude of operations. These will be based on instructions issued by the sales staff in the form of either a work ticket, sketch, or a template.
The metal door fabricator must have a complete and total understanding of metal doors, such as the construction and styling of the variety of different hollow metal doors in order to work efficiently and with the degree of quality that is absolutely necessary to meet the industry standard of acceptable quality.
The metal door fabricator must become familiar with all templates and fixtures that are utilized to perform each individual preparation on metal doors. This will at times require the fabricator to use a physical sample of a hardware item where there may not be a fixture or template available. In this case, the fabricator will be required to do a special custom type prep in the door.
A hollow metal door fabricator will be required to accurately read and utilize common fabricating measuring tools such as a tape measure, combination square, 2'-0" framing square, etc.
The hollow metal door fabricator must have a good understanding of all power tools necessary to fabricate hollow metal doors which include an electric or air grinder or sander, jig saw, chop saw, circle saw, radial arm saw, air drill, air chisel, drill press ,etc.
The hollow metal door fabricator must agree to observe and follow any and all safety rules, warnings, or recommendations for all power tools or equipment that may be used.
Under no circumstances will anyone be allowed to use any power tool or equipment without having prior proper training from Builders Hardware or an authorized representative.
A hollow metal door fabricator will be required to perform a multitude of different types of operations to hollow metal doors that will draw on several general shop skills:
1. Must have a general knowledge and ability to weld light gauge materials, typically 16-18 gauge to an industry standard of acceptable quality.
2. Must be able to grind/ sand and use automotive type body fillers (bondo) to an acceptable degree of quality.
3. Must be able to prime and paint using a "cup" type spray gun to an acceptable degree of quality.
The hollow metal door fabricator will be responsible for their own material handling. This will include the unloading of hollow metal doors and frame parts safely with the use of a fork lift.
The hollow metal door fabricator will be responsible for keeping their work area clean and safe from any hazards.
No one will be required to lift more than 75 pounds without getting assistance from a co-worker, as this is part of the safety program.
The hollow metal door fabricator may at times be required to do other general shop duties that may not be directly related to their fabricating position such as loading and/or unloading trucks, moving inventory, etc. However, all work assignments will be based on work load, delivery schedules, skills and abilities, will be issued based on this criteria by the shop foreman.
